Exterior Restoration

Johnson House Historic Site

Philadelphia, PA

sbk + parnters, LLC Principal Suzanna Barucco has had a long association with the Johnson House Historic Site, a National Historic Landmark.  Suzanna completed an architectural condition assessment of the site supported by the Heritage Preservation Conservation Assessment Program in 2005, and served as project manager for the Phase 1 exterior restoration of the main house and outbuilding completed in 2008.

Phase 1 included reconstruction of the original brick chimneys, installation of a historically appropriate cedar shingle roofs and water conduction system on the main house and outbuilding, restoration of the dormer windows, and repointing the principal facade.  sbk was subsequently retained by the Johnson House Historic Site to reassess exterior conditions to determine preservation priorities that would align site needs with budgetary constraints.  As a result of this process sbk completed construction documents for the Phase 2 exterior restoration work including masonry repointing on secondary elevations, cornice repairs, and restoration and repair of doors and windows below the roof level.

sbk also provided guidance for structural stabilization of the first floor and, as with many clients, continues to serve as a resource to the Johnson House as plans for implementing future projects develop.
