The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of the Nation's historic places worthy of preservation. Listing in the National Register is honorary, and separate from listing in a local register.
A benefit of National Register listing is eligibility to participate in the Historic Rehabilitation Investment Tax Credit program, which provides a 20% Federal tax credit for qualified expenses incurred in the rehabilitation of a historic building.
